Any financial planning process should start from discussing your goals. If you are in a relationship, do this together and be literally on the same page with your partner. 
 
This Goals template will help you to break down your short-, mid-, and long-term goals through the prizm of the term (time remaining) and money aspects.
 
Some goals, though, may result in income rather than an expense. This is great news! If you convert your recreation boat into airbnb or start a home-based consulting business - those goals will bring you money instead of consuming your money. 
 
In your financial planning binder, this work sheet would be your very first tab. Always keep it in primary focus and  move goals from long-term to mid-term, from mid-term to short-term as needs be.  Have fun!
